Why I Like My Business

Monday, April 20th, 2009

I enjoy coming to work each  day.  The joy of our business has always been the customers I am privileged to serve. It is not just the legends I have dealt with through the years. All our customers “care” about the clothing we make for them.  We have participated in many special occasions and a number of “firsts”.  We are making a jacket now that makes me smile.                                               We have a customer who breeds Old English Sheepdogs. ( My two Old English Sheepdogs came from his kennel.  Boswell serves as the logo on our web site- www.chipp2.com). About five years ago he began saving the fur that was combed out when he was grooming his dogs.  Old English Sheepdogs do not shed; but fur gets combed out when the dogs are groomed. He collected the fur in big garbage bags- including the fur from my dogs, Bella and Boswell, who he would groom and show.                                                                                                                                                After separating the whte fur from the grey fur he bought a Wyatt Norwegian Wheel and taught himself how to spin the fur into yarn. The resultant yarn was a combination of 50% fur, 25% Gottland wool, 12.5% silk and 12.5% Merino wool. The next step in the creative endeaver was the purchase of a Schacht Baby Wolf loom and he taught himself how to weave. The fruit of his labor was enough cloth to make one jacket.  The cloth is as soft as cashmere and the pattern is a zigzag herringbone. Because I know Bella and Boswell are part of the cloth it gives me an additional bonus.

If you are in our neighborhood and you would like to see the cloth, feel free to stop up. You can also see pictures of the dogs.
